Place: Denver, Colorado

Country: United States

The Colburn Automobile Company was established in 1906 in Denver, Colorado, by Judge E.A. Colburn, a prosperous mine owner from Cripple Creek. The company operated until 1911 and became known for producing one of the more successful automobile brands in Colorado during its brief existence.

Colburn vehicles were characterized by their conventional design and were equipped with various sizes of four-cylinder engines. The power output of these engines ranged from 25 horsepower in the initial models to 40/45 horsepower in the later years, specifically from 1909 to 1910. Among the notable achievements of the Colburn was the production of a roadster capable of exceeding speeds of 60 miles per hour (approximately 100 kilometers per hour).

The company gained recognition not only for its performance but also for its distinctive model names. The 1906 Rex Alta, which translates to "King of the Heights" in Latin, and the 1907 Skyscraper were both named to highlight the vehicles' capabilities in mountainous terrains. In 1909, Colburn introduced a dashboard radiator design, featuring a Renault-style bonnet, which marked a significant innovation in their vehicle design.
