Clinton E. Woods was an early automotive pioneer based in Chicago, Illinois, who focused on the development of electric vehicles. He began his work in the automotive field in 1897, when he created a prototype electric car. This prototype led to the production of 60 vehicles based on Woods' design by the Fisher Equipment Company in 1898.
In 1899, Woods took on the role of works superintendent at the Woods Motor Vehicle Company. However, he left this position in early 1901 to establish the Woods-Waring Company. The new company offered a range of vehicle designs, including a stanhope, brougham, hansom cab, and delivery van. Despite the variety of models, Woods-Waring faced financial difficulties and ceased operations by the end of 1901. Meanwhile, the Woods Motor Vehicle Company continued its operations until 1918, contributing to the early development of the automotive industry.
