The Chicago Motor Vehicle Company was established in Harvey, Illinois, in 1895. Initially, the company focused on manufacturing horse-drawn carriages, which were the primary products offered despite the company's name suggesting a focus on motor vehicles.

In an effort to innovate, the Chicago Motor Vehicle Company provided the option to equip their vehicles with a "double-cylinder hydro-carbon motor." However, it remains unclear how many vehicles were actually fitted with this motor. Notably, one of their motorized vehicles participated in the 1895 Chicago Times-Herald Race, highlighting the company's early involvement in the burgeoning automotive industry.

As the 20th century approached, the company continued to operate, shifting its focus to the production of commercial vehicles. Despite this transition, the Chicago Motor Vehicle Company faced financial difficulties and ultimately declared bankruptcy in late 1904.
