Central Automobile Company was established in 1906 in Providence, Rhode Island. The company aimed to manufacture automobiles powered by rotary steam engines, a technology that was relatively novel at the time. To facilitate their production, Central Automobile imported several rotary steam engine units from Europe for use in their prototypes.
The company planned to produce two main models: a 10 horsepower runabout priced at $800 and a 20 horsepower tourer with a price range of $1,200 to $1,500. They projected an initial production of 100 vehicles in their first year. However, Central Automobile Company faced challenges and ultimately ceased operations within the same year it was founded, marking a brief existence in the early automotive industry.
