Carter Brothen Motor Car Company was an American automobile manufacturer based in Hyattsville, Maryland, that operated briefly from 1917 to 1918. The company was founded by brothers Gary and I. Toward Carter, who had prior experience in the automotive industry, having built the Washington automobile from 1909 to 1912.
Before establishing Carter Brothen, the brothers were also involved with other automotive brands, including Harvard and Monarch. Under the Carter Brothen name, they attempted to relaunch three models from the Monarch line, which included a four-cylinder, a V8, and a V12 engine variant. However, it is believed that only a few prototypes of these models were produced, and the company did not achieve significant commercial success.
The final venture of the Carter brothers in the automotive field was the Cartermobile, which marked the end of their contributions to the industry. The company ceased operations shortly after its inception, leaving behind a brief legacy in the early 20th-century American automotive landscape.
