Bugmobile Co. of America was an automobile manufacturer based in Chicago, Illinois, that operated briefly from 1908 to 1909. The company produced a unique high-wheeler vehicle known as the Bugmobile, which was characterized by its unconventional design and engineering.
The Bugmobile was powered by a 12-horsepower, 2-cylinder horizontally-opposed engine. It featured a conventional sliding gearbox and utilized steel cables for its final drive system. The company's first model, the 1908 Model A, had a wheelbase of 68 inches (1,726 mm), while the subsequent Model B offered a longer wheelbase of 76 inches (1,929 mm). The Model C, released in 1909, maintained the same wheelbase as the Model B but included an upgraded engine with increased power output.
Despite its innovative design, Bugmobile Co. of America had a short production run and is now largely a footnote in the history of early American automotive manufacturing.
