Bugetta Inc. was an American automotive manufacturer based in Mesa, California, known for its production of specialized sports cars. Founded by race car fabricator Jerry Eisen, the company developed a line of vehicles that combined the aesthetics of dune buggies with advanced engineering features.
The Bugetta cars were characterized by their aluminum monocoque chassis and sophisticated suspension systems, which included fabricated double A-arm front suspension. They were powered by rear-mounted engines sourced from various manufacturers, including Chevrolet Corvair, Volkswagen, Renault, and Porsche. The design allowed for versatility, as the Bugetta could be configured in three different styles: a mini pick-up truck, a hatchback sports car, or a touring car. Approximately 50 units of these vehicles were produced during the company's operation.
In addition to the Bugetta line, Eisen created a one-off sports car featuring a mid-engine Ford 5.8-liter engine, designed as a show car for Autolite spark plugs. This unique vehicle had a fiberglass body and an automatic transmission, but despite discussions of potential production, it remained a singular prototype. Throughout his career, Eisen continued to fabricate show and race cars for various major automotive manufacturers.
