Benson Automobile Company was established in 1901 in Cleveland, Ohio, with the primary aim of continuing the steam car activities previously undertaken by the Eastman Automobile Company. The company modified the existing Eastman design to create its own version of steam-powered vehicles.
During its brief operational period, Benson produced approximately twelve automobiles before ceasing production by the end of 1901. The company’s short-lived venture into the automotive industry reflects the early experimentation with steam power in the United States.
