Barton was an American automobile manufacturer that originated from the Barton Boiler Company, based in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1903, the company initially specialized in the production of boilers before diversifying into the automotive sector.
Barton offered a unique product in the early 1900s by constructing special steam tonneau cars. These vehicles utilized Barton’s innovative flash boiler technology, which was complemented by a Mason two-cylinder slide-valve engine and a Burnell paraffin burner. At least two of these steam cars were sold, marking the company's brief foray into automobile manufacturing.
Despite its innovative approach, Barton did not achieve significant commercial success in the automotive market and remains a lesser-known name in the history of American car manufacturers.
