Amectran, officially known as American Ecological Transportation, was established in 1979 and is based in Dallas, Texas. The company focused on developing environmentally friendly transportation solutions, particularly in the realm of electric vehicles.
One of Amectran's notable projects was the Exar-1, an electrically powered four-seater sports coupe. After several years of experimentation, the company announced plans for the Exar-1, which was designed to incorporate advanced materials and technology. The vehicle was based on a prototype of the Frua-designed BMW 3000 coupe show car, from which Amectran took moulds to produce bodies made of Kevlar.
The Exar-1 was equipped with a 19 horsepower General Electric motor, regenerative braking, and a four-speed semi-automatic transmission. It was reported to have a top speed of 85 mph (137 km/h) and a maximum range of 100 miles (160 km). However, it appears that production of the Exar-1 did not commence, and the vehicle remained a prototype.
