Alter Motor Car Company was an American automobile manufacturer that operated from 1914 to 1917. Founded in Plymouth, Michigan, the company began production in August 1914, focusing on conventional automobiles. The initial offerings included models powered by either a 23-horsepower four-cylinder engine or a 28-horsepower six-cylinder engine. The body styles available were limited to a five-seater tourer and a two-seater roadster.
In 1916, the company planned to introduce a V8 engine; however, production was delayed due to the relocation to a new, purpose-built factory in Grand Haven, Michigan. Unfortunately, the company faced financial difficulties and declared bankruptcy in January 1917. During its brief existence, Alter Motor Car Company produced approximately 1,000 vehicles. One of the partners, Guy Hamilton, attempted to create a similar vehicle under the name HAMILTON, but this venture also failed to last beyond its first year.
