Healy Designs was a British kit car manufacturer. The company introduced the Healy Enigma, a sports car based on the Mazda MX-5 platform, promoted as “a new concept in sports car manufacturing.” The Enigma was offered in kit form or as a factory-built car, using donor vehicles from the MX-5 Mk1, Mk2, or Mk3 series.
The Enigma employed a custom square-section steel spaceframe chassis with steel bulkheads, while retaining the Mazda donor’s suspension, brakes, transmission, fuel system, and electrics. Its bodywork was produced in GRP with gelcoat finish, consisting of a front and rear tub, bonnet, boot lid, doors, valences, and other panels. Lighting units were sourced from the BMW Mini and Nissan Micra, while interiors used Mazda dashboard, seats, and switchgear. Kits were priced from about £6,250 to £6,750 depending on the base model, and the car aimed to combine the reliability of Mazda engineering with bespoke styling and construction flexibility.
