Deetype

Deetype Replicas Ltd was based in East Hanningfield, Chelmsford, Essex, in the United Kingdom. The company was founded by Bryan Wingfield, who was among the earliest builders to reproduce the Jaguar D-Type.

In its original form, the Deetype D-Type replica was an elaborate and costly machine, featuring an aluminium monocoque produced by Williams & Pritchard. Customers could specify any Jaguar XK engine, and Deetype also offered an enlarged 4570cc unit producing 342bhp. The cars were available in long-nose, short-nose and XK-SS body styles, and the company also made an unsuccessful attempt to recreate the Jaguar XJ13 racer.

Beyond the D-Type, Bryan Wingfield expanded into broader engineering project work. He produced a number of bespoke Ferrari replicas, including a modern reinterpretation of the Ferrari GTO based on the Ferrari 400i. He also built examples described as "genuine" Ford GT40s, constructed using leftover original chassis parts.
