Craig-Dorwald Ailsa Craig was a British automobile manufacturer that operated in the early 20th century, primarily known for its production of marine engines. The company was based in Putney, London, and began its foray into automobile manufacturing in 1902.
The first vehicle produced by Craig-Dorwald Ailsa Craig was a light car equipped with a single-cylinder engine and a single speed. This was followed by a 10 horsepower, two-cylinder car designed for commercial travelers in 1903. The company offered a range of models that included various engine configurations, such as 8 horsepower single-cylinder, 18 horsepower twin-cylinder, and 24 to 50 horsepower four-cylinder engines. Notably, one of their more powerful models featured a worm drive chassis with a luxurious barouche body, commissioned for the Earl of Norbury.
Despite its efforts in automobile production, the company manufactured a limited number of vehicles, with total output not exceeding twelve cars. In addition to its own models, Craig-Dorwald Ailsa Craig also imported and sold the Mayfair car during the years 1906-1907. Ultimately, the company continued to focus on its core business of marine engines under the name Ailsa Craig Ltd., which persisted for many years after its brief venture into the automotive sector.
