Comet Car & Engineering Co. Ltd. was a British automobile manufacturer based in Croydon, Surrey, that operated from 1935 to 1937. The company aimed to produce a small car that could compete with larger mass-production manufacturers during a challenging economic period in the 1930s. However, the Comet brand did not progress beyond the prototype stage.
The prototype featured a 1201 cc four-cylinder overhead valve engine, which produced 46 brake horsepower. It was equipped with a four-speed gearbox and was designed to offer various body styles, including two- and four-seater sports models, as well as saloon and drophead coupe variants. The latter two body styles were constructed by Abbott, a coachbuilder known for its craftsmanship. The pricing for the proposed models ranged from £435 to £465, but it remains unclear whether any of these styles were actually produced in quantity. Ultimately, the Comet brand faced insurmountable challenges and ceased operations shortly after its inception.
