Butterfield

Butterfield Engineering was a British kit car manufacturer based in Nazing, Essex, United Kingdom.

The company was best known for the Butterfield Musketeer, recognized as the world's first kit car based on Mini mechanicals. The Musketeer featured an unusual design, with an elongated nose section that tilted forward to provide access to the engine, and bodywork made of glassfibre with rounded, bulbous lines.

The car was built around a multi-tubular chassis that could accommodate either an 848cc or 998cc Mini engine. Its specification was relatively upmarket for a kit car of its type, including a rev counter and the option of adjustable dampers.

Despite its engineering merits, the Musketeer's high price, nearly double that of a standard Mini, limited its commercial appeal, and the model was discontinued after a short production run.
