Brown, Paine & Dowland Ltd. was a British automotive manufacturer established in 1913, located in Shoreham, Sussex. The company specialized in the production of cyclecars, a type of lightweight automobile that was popular in the early 20th century.
One of their notable models was the "Thu," which was powered by an 8 horsepower air-cooled V-twin engine sourced from J.A.P. (J.A. Prestwich Industries). The vehicle featured a 2-speed gearbox and utilized a unique final drive system that employed long belts extending over half the length of the frame. In March 1913, a prototype of the Thu was inspected by potential buyers, who expressed interest in the design. However, there is little record of the company’s activities following this initial prototype, suggesting that it may not have progressed to full-scale production.
