Berkeley Developments traced its roots to the original Berkeley Motor Co., which had been based in Syston, Leicestershire, before the marque's revival efforts began. The modern company was established in 1970 with the aim of restoring original Berkeley cars, eventually gaining access to the original body moulds that had been used to produce the marque's distinctive glassfibre shells.

A new corporate entity was formed in 1991, based in Langley Hill, Nottinghamshire, with the goal of returning Berkeley vehicles to production. By 1993, the company had begun manufacturing complete replicas of the Berkeley T60, employing either newly engineered ladder chassis or folded aluminium panels bonded to the glassfibre bodywork.

These replicas retained the spirit of the original T60 by offering a range of power options, including Mini engines mounted in a Mini front subframe, various motorcycle-derived units similar to those used in the original model, and Citroën 2CV engines. Variants fitted with Bandini and Camerotta components were also made available to customers seeking further customization.

The company later expanded its range to include a four-wheeled version of the Berkeley replica powered by a Mini engine, broadening the appeal of the marque beyond its original three-wheeled configuration. Through these efforts, Berkeley Developments preserved and continued the legacy of the original Berkeley Motor Co. for a new generation of enthusiasts.
