Batten was a British automobile manufacturer that operated from 1935 to 1938, based in Beckenham, Kent. The company was known for producing a limited number of sports cars that combined elements of Anglo-American design. The vehicles were built on a shortened Ford chassis from the early 1930s, specifically the 1932-33 models, and were equipped with a modified Ford V8 engine that increased power from 80 to 97 brake horsepower.

The design of the Batten cars featured a unique underslung frame that was shortened by 16 inches and narrowed by 8.5 inches at the rear, contributing to their lightweight construction of approximately 2,182 pounds (942 kg). This design allowed for impressive performance, with top speeds exceeding 100 mph (160 km/h). Most models utilized Ford-type transverse suspension, although a few examples were equipped with independent front suspension.

Initially, the Batten cars were characterized by their stark, door-less two-seater bodies. However, later models adopted more refined sports tourer drophead coachwork. In 1937, a new model was introduced that significantly deviated from Ford's styling, featuring a low two-seater body, cycle-type wings, a sloping grille, and headlamps integrated into the sides of the bonnet. This model achieved a top speed of 118 mph (190 km/h), but it is believed that only one unit was produced. Overall, the production of Batten cars was extremely limited, with total output not exceeding ten vehicles.
