Bassett was a British automobile manufacturer that operated briefly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The company, known as the Bassett Motor Syndicate, was based in London and was established in 1899. It focused on the development of early motor vehicles during a time of significant innovation in the automotive industry.

The prototype vehicle produced by Bassett was completed in 1899 and is notable for its historical significance, as it still exists today. In May 1901, the company showcased a new model at the Agricultural Hall Exhibition in London. This vehicle was a four-seater powered by a 4-horsepower Schwanemeyer engine, which was uniquely mounted beneath the rear seat. The design included a two-speed gearbox, and the engine, transmission, and rear axle were housed within a single aluminum oil chamber.

Despite the initial excitement surrounding its exhibition, little information emerged about the company or its vehicles following this announcement, leading to a swift decline in its prominence within the automotive sector.
