Brand Data

Company Name: Gebrüder Verga

Country: Switzerland

Gebrüder Verga referred to a small family coachbuilder in Coldrerio, Ticino, Switzerland, active under the Verga name since 1830 and run by successive generations of the Verga family. In the mid-1950s the firm briefly pursued an in-house automobile under the “Gebrüder Verga” label. Its best-documented effort was the 1956 Gebrüder Verga Coupé 1200, a two-seat sports coupé on Volkswagen Type 1 mechanicals with a rear-mounted air-cooled engine. Contemporary accounts stated that the prototype appeared at the Concorso d’Eleganza at Campione d’Italia near Lugano in 1956. Period photos showed a dramatic bubble-canopy version; later images depicted the same chassis converted to an open roadster. Some sources suggested that a fixed-head gull-wing variant also existed, possibly as a copy, but no series production followed and the car remained a one-off (perhaps two at most). The company continued as a general carrozzeria rather than a car manufacturer, and the Gebrüder Verga name did not develop into a sustained marque.
