Bristol Motor Car Company was an early American automobile manufacturer based in Bristol, Connecticut. The company was established in 1903 and produced a two-seater runabout that was powered by an 8-horsepower single-cylinder air-cooled engine. The vehicle utilized an epicyclic gearbox, which was a notable feature for its time. Production of this model commenced in March 1903.
In May 1903, Bristol Motor Car Company merged with the American Hardware Corporation, located in New Britain, Connecticut. Following this merger, the American Hardware Corporation planned to launch a new model known as the Corbin in 1905. Although Frederick Manross, the designer of the Bristol runabout, may have continued production into 1904, he eventually left to join Frederick Law in establishing a new company focused on manufacturing the IAW car.
