Company Name: Hunt's Steam Samwills & Carriage Accessories
Place: Bridport, Dorset
Country: United Kingdom
Brit was a British automobile manufacturer that operated from 1902 to 1905. The company was founded by John Hunt, who had gained engineering experience in Beddminstser and Bristol before relocating to Bridport, Dorset. Initially, Hunt's enterprise focused on steam sawmills and carriage accessories, but he soon shifted his attention to automotive engineering.
Hunt modified an early Daimler wagonette, creating his own two-cylinder replacement engine and implementing significant improvements, including enhanced steering and a larger radiator. The success of this modified vehicle led him to produce complete vehicles designed under the name "Brit," inspired by the local river. However, it became evident that the production of engines alone provided a more stable business model. Consequently, Brit transitioned to manufacturing marine engines, which were marketed successfully for several years.
