Econoom was a Dutch automobile manufacturer founded in 1912 by two former employees of the SPYKER car company, Messrs Hautekeet and Van Asselt. The company was established in Amsterdam to cater to the growing demand for small vehicles, positioning itself more as a light car manufacturer rather than a cyclecar producer.
The Econoom utilized a French 4-cylinder Ballot engine, which produced 14 horsepower from a displacement of 1130 cc. The vehicle was assembled using components from Malicet et Blin, including the gearbox and rear axle. Weighing only 400 kg, the Econoom was designed for comfort and ease of driving, featuring half-elliptic springs at the front and three-quarter elliptic springs at the rear.
Despite its reliability and success in the market, production was halted due to World War I after approximately 85 units had been manufactured, some of which were exported to the Dutch East Indies. Following the war, the founders did not resume car production, leading to the eventual cessation of the brand.
