Borgward was a German automobile manufacturer that, during its brief period of operation in Mexico from 1967 to 1970, produced vehicles under the name Fabrica Nacional de Automoviles SA in Monterrey. The company focused on revising the Borgward 2240cc six-cylinder saloon, which was originally designed in Germany.
The Mexican version of the Borgward saloon featured a notable modification: it utilized a coil rear suspension system instead of the air suspension that was standard in the German models. This adaptation was one of the few differences between the two variants, reflecting the local manufacturing capabilities and market preferences of the time.
Despite its short-lived presence in the Mexican automotive market, Borgward's operations contributed to the diversification of vehicle production in the region during the late 1960s.
