The Atomo was a small three-wheeled vehicle produced in Parma, Italy, by Società Applicazioni Meccaniche Costruzioni Automobilistiche, a company whose elaborate name reflected its ambitions in mechanical engineering and automobile construction.
The vehicle was powered by a 246cc two-cylinder two-stroke engine mounted above the rear wheel, which it also drove directly. A three-speed gearbox transmitted power to the wheel, allowing the little three-wheeler to reach a top speed of about 47 mph (75 km/h).
Production of the Atomo was limited, with only a small number of examples built. The manufacturer's commercial life was brief, and by October 1949 the company had ceased operations, bringing an early end to the Atomo's presence in the postwar Italian microcar market.
