e.Volution GmbH was a German automotive start-up founded by Professor Günther Schuh, who had previously been involved with StreetScooter and e.GO. Based in Aachen and originating from RWTH Aachen University, the company focused on building electric vehicles designed for the circular economy. Its philosophy centered on the “Re-Assembly Factory” concept, where cars were modularly built so that major components such as batteries, interiors, and electronics could be upgraded or replaced on a five-year cycle. This approach was intended to allow vehicles to remain in service for several decades, with a projected lifespan of up to 50 years. The firm’s flagship passenger models were the Meta and the Space. The Meta was an electric commuter shuttle with six to seven seats, optionally configured with built-in office workstations. It was offered through fleet partnerships and subscription models rather than private ownership, with the company retaining responsibility for maintenance and refurbishment. The Space was a larger crossover-style vehicle available in five- or seven-seat versions, designed for family or long-distance use. Both models employed the Oscar aluminum chassis architecture and modular design principles. Power was provided by an electric drivetrain with an LPG range extender, with plans to shift to hydrogen fuel cells in the future. e.Volution also developed commercial EVs under the Max and Giga names, applying the same sustainable manufacturing strategy.
