The Maresi Project was a limited racing car initiative presented by Garage Hotel in 2021 as part of its bespoke “Iconic Cars” program. It was described as a pure, unfiltered two-seat racing car dedicated to the pleasure of driving. The prototype was handmade around a tubular chassis with a fiberglass body, a rear mid-mounted engine, and rear-wheel drive. Its styling drew inspiration from classic racing silhouettes of the 1960s while incorporating modern engineering. Development involved several specialists: design was credited to Nicolas Buresi, a graduate of the Sbarro design school; chassis and suspension work was associated with Eric Broadley Automotive; Radical Precision Engineering provided the engine; and ESP Sport handled mechanical assembly and adjustments. The first prototype employed a high-performance combustion engine, while the project’s stated ambition was to create a flexible platform adaptable to new technologies, including hydrogen power. Only a small number of Maresi cars were intended to be built, each as an artisanal collaboration between multiple craftspeople, blending retro aesthetics with experimental performance.
