Douglas Car Company was a manufacturer based in Barking, Essex, known for producing kit cars that emulated classic designs. The origins of the Douglas car lay in Cyprus, but the vehicles were also manufactured in Britain.
The company offered two distinct kit-form versions of its cars. One version was based on the Triumph Herald, Vitesse, and Spitfire, while the other utilized a specially designed chassis that incorporated parts from the Ford Escort Mk I and Mk II. The front suspension of the latter model was derived from the Ford Cortina, and it featured a unique multi-link rear suspension system. The vehicles were designed to accommodate any Ford cross-flow engine, providing flexibility for builders.
The body of the Douglas car consisted of a 20-piece fiberglass construction that was mounted onto a plywood floor, reflecting the era's approach to kit car design and assembly.
