Brand Data

Company Name: Gilson Manufacturing Co.

Place: Guelph, Ontario

Country: Canada

Gilson Manufacturing Co. was established in 1850 in Guelph, Ontario, originally as a foundry and machine works. In 1921, the company ventured into the automotive market, planning to produce a four-cylinder tourer. Despite being primarily an engine-making firm, Gilson opted to source engines from Continental, while they manufactured the frames and various other components in-house.

The company produced a total of six cars, but only two were completed, along with a partially finished vehicle that was dismantled to provide spare parts for the other two. Ultimately, Gilson's foray into automobile production was limited, and the company found greater success in the agricultural sector, selling between 50 and 100 tractors during the same period. The automotive venture was short-lived, and Gilson Manufacturing Co. returned its focus to its core business of machinery and equipment.
