The company emerged as a descendant of the Clinton Thresher Company, which had experienced a significant setback when its factory was destroyed by fire in 1908. Following the reconstruction of the facility, the company shifted its focus to the production of motor vehicles, specifically trucks and cars.

The Clinton car was designed as a large tourer or roadster, with the versatility to be converted for either passenger or goods transport. It was powered by a four-cylinder engine, which was likely produced in-house by the company. Clinton Motor Car Co.
