Bombardier Inc. was a Canadian multinational company based in Sherbrooke, Quebec, known primarily for its contributions to the aerospace and transportation sectors. Founded by Joseph-Armand Bombardier in 1942, the company initially focused on manufacturing snowmobiles, with the Ski-Doo being one of its most notable inventions. Over the years, Bombardier expanded its operations to include various forms of transportation, including rail and aircraft manufacturing.
One of the lesser-known products from Bombardier was the Neighbourhood Electric Vehicle (NEV), which was introduced in 1996 and began production in 1997. This vehicle was designed for short-distance travel, targeting specific markets such as resorts and golfers. The NEV was powered by six 12V lead-acid batteries that supplied a 4kW electric motor, allowing for a maximum range of 37 miles (60 km) and a top speed of 25 mph (40 km/h). The two-passenger vehicle featured a fixed roof, with optional doors, and was characterized by its compact design.
Throughout its history, Bombardier made significant contributions to the automotive and transportation industries, including the production of the Volkswagen Iltis 4x4 under license in the 1980s. The company's innovative spirit and diverse product offerings have left a lasting impact on the sectors in which it operated.
