Asuna was a short-lived automobile brand established by General Motors Canada in 1992. The brand operated out of Oshawa, Ontario, and was active for only a brief period until 1993. Asuna was created to market a selection of vehicles that were primarily badge-engineered versions of existing models from other GM divisions and partners.
The Asuna lineup included the Asuna Sunfire, a 2x2 coupe, and the Asuna Sunrunner, a 4x4 vehicle that was essentially a rebadged version of the Geo Tracker, which itself was based on the Suzuki Samurai. Additionally, in 1993, the brand introduced the SE and GT models, which were derived from the Pontiac Le Mans, manufactured by Daewoo in Korea.
Despite the initial offerings, the brand faced challenges, particularly with consumer confusion over its badging strategy. This confusion, along with a decline in trade-in values, contributed to the brand's discontinuation after 1993, with the Sunrunner being rebranded as a Pontiac in subsequent years.
