Sociedade de Automoveis Luminari Ltda. was established in São Paulo, Brazil, in the early 1960s by Italian-born Rino Malzoni. He began producing his own automobiles in Fazenda Chimbo, Matao, and collaborated with Jorge Lettry, who focused on the mechanical aspects of the vehicles, and Anisio Campos, the designer. Together, they formed a group that included Luis Alves da Costa and Mario Cesar Camargo, leading to the creation of the company dedicated to manufacturing GT Malzoni sports cars.
The GT Malzoni was built using mechanical components from the DKW, a three-cylinder front-wheel-drive vehicle produced under license by Vemag in Brazil. The car gained significant popularity, prompting its creators to expand their operations. In 1967, they established a larger enterprise that would go on to produce the more successful Puma GT sports car. The GT Malzoni is also referred to as the DKW Malzoni, reflecting its origins and the components used in its construction.
