Ascot was an Australian automobile brand established by Continental Coachwork Pty Ltd in Sydney, New South Wales, operating from 1958 to 1960. The brand is best known for its sole model, the ISV 1300, a fibreglass coupé built on a Volkswagen chassis. The name "Ascot" was chosen after a deliberation between it and "Escort."
The ISV 1300 featured a range of performance enhancements, including Okrasa fittings, which contributed to its appeal. It was designed with a focus on comfort and practicality, boasting double-skinned insulation, ample luggage space, and plush upholstery. Notably, the vehicle included a first-aid kit integrated into the armrest, showcasing attention to detail. Despite its innovative design and advanced fibreglass technology, the model was expensive to produce, which limited its market viability.
Only 19 units of the ISV 1300 were manufactured before the brand ceased operations. The combination of high production costs and competition from established models like the Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia ultimately rendered the venture unprofitable, despite having received orders for additional units.
