Koenigsegg has issued the following press release:

Koenigsegg One:1 takes on a Volvo truck

The world’s first Megacar goes up against a Volvo FH truck.  “When Volvo Trucks challenged us to a race, it was impossible to turn down,” says Christian von Koenigsegg.

It all took place at Knutstorp racing circuit in southern Sweden. The track is a natural setting for Koenigsegg’s Megacar but not for a heavy-duty truck built for long-distance transportation. The difference between an FH truck and a sports car may not be as big as one first expects. Under the hood of the Volvo FH is the I-Shift Dual Clutch, a technology previously used in sports cars but new to trucks. To make the competition a fair shot, the truck needed to complete one lap and Koenigsegg had to complete two.

“When Volvo Trucks challenged us to a race, it was impossible to turn down,” says Christian von Koenigsegg, CEO and founder of Koenigsegg “We are always open for the unexpected and what could be more unexpected than for a Megacar to go up against a heavy truck on a race circuit?”

Koenigsegg One:1 is the world’s first series-produced sports car that produces one Megawatt per kg, which is why it has been dubbed a ‘Megacar’. One Megawatt per kg entails that the car produces 1360 horsepower for its 1360 kg KERB weight, a power-to-weight ratio that no other car manufacturer has previously accomplished. It makes the car one of the world’s fastest. The Koenigsegg One:1 has a full carbon fibre chassis and body with fully active chassis and fully active aerodynamics. It produces over 600 Kg of downforce in 250 Km/t and is capable of carrying over 2G lateral during cornering and accelerate from 0-400 Km/t in around 20 seconds. All of this whilst being easy and fun to drive on an everyday basis with excellent ride quality.

“Our Koenigsegg One:1 is an extremely fast car and we felt pretty sure that we would win despite our handicap. But you can never be entirely sure, which made it all the more exciting. In the end, it was a fun collaboration, because both are Swedish vehicle brands and both are industry leaders in their own niche. It was of course exciting to compete against each other,” says Christian von Koenigsegg.

In the competition, British TV presenter and former racecar driver Tiff Needell drives the Volvo FH truck. Behind the wheel of the One:1 is Koenigsegg’s own test driver Robert Serwanski. The race was held on a closed-off racecourse with safety professionals on-site.
