1959 Almquist El Morocco survives!

Jun 07, 2015

an unknown for wider audience marque – almquist – was run by ed almquist in the early ‘50s. while the company did not last long it had a wide range of fiberglass-bodied sportscars. among them was the el morocco – one of the most obscure model of all that this milford, pennsylvania workshop made during the short period of existence.

for a very detailed and quality research on this exact model, let us recommend you a visit to our friend’s geoff hacker’s webpage here.

now comes a big surprise, thanks to a recent message from our reader mr bruce west. he owns one of, perhaps, only three el moroccos ever made and this is what we kindly wrote to us:

“i discovered the 1959 almquist el morocco on a hillside in eastern missouri in december, 2012. i became its owner in february, 2013 and brought it home in march, ending its 30 year slumber in the woods. it's 115" wheelbase rested on a 1958 chevrolet frame. it's engine and interior had been removed long ago.

i discovered the identity of the car and have contacted it's builder - ed almquist - on 2 occasions. the car is presently stored in the dry attic of my garage.”

this is absolutely fantastic discovery! kudos to mr west! we can’t wait to see more on the progress of resurrection. best luck!
