Country: United States

The Gyroscope was an automobile produced by the Blomstrom Manufacturing Company in Detroit, Michigan, during the years 1908 and 1909. The company was founded by C.H. Blomstrom, who acquired the design of a vertical crankshaft from the Griswold automobile. Believing that this design offered a gyroscopic effect, Blomstrom renamed the vehicle the Gy.

The Gyroscope featured a notable design modification, as Blomstrom increased the vehicle's track width from 55 inches to a standard 56 inches (approximately 1421 mm). In an effort to attract buyers, he significantly reduced the prices of the Gyroscope models, offering the runabout at $750 and the tourer at $800 in 1909, down from their original prices of $1,500 and $1,350, respectively. Despite these efforts, the company struggled to find a market for the Gyroscope.

In an attempt to salvage the design, Blomstrom sought to sell the Gyroscope to other manufacturers, including the Page Company and the Lion Company, both located in Adrian, Michigan. However, these companies opted for more conventional designs and declined to adopt the Gyroscope, which ultimately led to the discontinuation of the model.
