Gaylord Cars Ltd was an American automotive manufacturer based in Chicago, Illinois, that operated briefly from 1956 to 1957. The company was founded by Ed and Jim Gaylord, who aimed to create a high-end sports car that would stand out in the competitive automotive market of the time.

The Gaylord sports car featured a design by the notable stylist Brooks Stevens, who was known for his work in automotive design. The vehicle was intended to be a luxury model, with a proposed price of $17,500 in 1956. The car's chassis was characterized by a backbone tube frame, which incorporated A-arm front suspension and a live axle at the rear, showcasing a blend of innovative engineering and design.

The prototype of the Gaylord was constructed with an all-metal body built by Spohn in Germany, and it was powered by a Chrysler V8 engine paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Although the prototype was ultimately scrapped, the company produced three additional chassis, which were designed to accommodate Cadillac V8 engines. However, only one of these chassis received a body before the project was halted due to the partners' decision to suspend operations.

Among the notable features of the Gaylord were a retractable hard-top and variable-assist power steering, which reflected the company's commitment to innovation in automotive design. Despite its short-lived existence, Gaylord Cars Ltd left a mark on the automotive landscape of the 1950s with its ambitious vision for a luxury sports car.
