Brand Data

Company Name: The William Galloway Co.

Place: Waterloo, Iowa

Country: United States

The Galloway company, officially known as the William Galloway Co., was established in 1906 in Waterloo, Iowa. Initially focused on manufacturing agricultural equipment, the company ventured into the automotive industry in 1908. Galloway introduced a high-wheeler vehicle designed to serve dual purposes: as a load carrier and as a passenger vehicle suitable for transporting families to church on Sundays. This model featured a 14-horsepower, two-cylinder engine, chain drive, and solid tires.

In 1910, William Galloway played a significant role in the automotive landscape by persuading Fred Maytag to relocate the production of the Maytag car to Waterloo. Galloway invested in Maytag's business, which facilitated this transition. During this period, the company also produced a limited number of four-cylinder tourers, which were essentially rebadged Maytag vehicles.

Galloway's involvement in the automotive sector extended beyond his own company. He later became associated with the Dart Manufacturing Company, which was known for producing the successful Dart truck. In 1917, Galloway engaged in further badge engineering by marketing a rebadged ARGO light car under the name Arabian. The Galloway company ceased operations in 1911, marking the end of its brief but notable presence in the automotive industry.
