Foster [2]

This American manufacturer began operations between 1901 and 1903 as the Foster Automobile Manufacturing Company, based in Rochester, New York.

The company initially produced steam and electric cars, offering three steamer models known as the Light Roadster, Touring Wagon, and Surrey, along with a single electric runabout model. By the end of 1901, it had built 165 cars.

The company encountered patent difficulties with its steam-powered vehicles, and in 1902 it was sued by the Whitney Wagon Company for patent infringement. As a result, it shifted its focus to petrol-powered cars for 1903, producing models fitted with 2-cylinder engines rated at 9 and 12 horsepower. Despite this change, the company went bankrupt by the end of that year.

In 1904, production of the steam car design continued under W. H. Artzberger, operating as the Artzberger Automobile Company in Allegheny, Pennsylvania. Artzberger also marketed steam cars under his own name.
