F.J. Fanning Manufacturing Co. was an American automobile manufacturer based in Chicago, Illinois, that operated from 1901 to 1903. Founded by brothers John and Frank Fanning, the company produced both petrol and electric vehicles during its brief existence.
The petrol cars featured a 9-horsepower, air-cooled, 2-cylinder engine and were available in two body styles: a 2-seater runabout and a 4-seater tonneau. These vehicles utilized a chain drive system and were equipped with wheel steering. In contrast, the electric runabout was powered by a 2-horsepower motor and employed tiller steering.
Despite achieving a degree of success with several sales outlets on the East Coast, the F.J. Fanning Manufacturing Co. faced a significant setback when a factory fire in May 1903 led to the closure of the business.
