Brand Data

Company Name: Fageol Motors Co.

Place: Oakland, California

Country: United States

Fageol Motors Company was established in Oakland, California, and operated from 1916 to 1939. The company specialized in manufacturing trucks with capacities ranging from 2 to 6 tons, as well as buses produced at a separate facility in Kent, Ohio.

Shortly after its inception, Fageol designed a passenger car that was notable for its size and expense, making it one of the largest cars ever produced in the United States at the time. This vehicle featured an impressive wheelbase of up to 145 inches (3680 mm) and was powered by a 6-cylinder Hall Scott engine with a displacement of 13 1/2 liters. The engine was capable of delivering 125 brake horsepower at 1300 revolutions per minute.

The pricing for the Fageol passenger car was substantial, with the chassis alone costing $9,500 and complete vehicles starting at $17,000, figures that were considered exorbitant during the early 20th century. The company offered a range of open and closed coachwork options for buyers. Although only two units of this model are known to have been completed, one of them, a victoria phaeton, was prominently displayed for exhibitions and demonstrations aimed at potential customers.

In 1921, this victoria or a similar model was advertised in London, with a price tag of $12,000, indicating the car's continued appeal and the company's ambition to reach international markets.
