Eclipse Manufacturing Company was established in 1904 in Elmira, New York. Originally known as the Eclipse Bicycle Company, the firm transitioned to manufacturing automobiles, introducing a touring car powered by a 20-horsepower, four-cylinder air-cooled engine. This shift marked a significant change in the company's focus from bicycles to motor vehicles.
However, the venture into automobile production was short-lived. By 1905, Eclipse Manufacturing Company recognized that the bicycle market remained more lucrative and reverted to its original name, Eclipse Bicycle Company. The company ultimately returned to its roots, concentrating on the production of bicycles rather than automobiles.
