Comet was an American automobile brand that operated briefly in the early 20th century, specifically from 1914 to 1915. The company originated in Indianapolis, Indiana, initially under the name Economy Cyclecar Company. However, the name was changed to Comet Cyclecar Company in 1915 after the founders discovered that another company, the Economycar, was already using a similar name.
The Comet brand specialized in the production of cyclecars, which were lightweight vehicles designed to be economical and efficient. The Comet cyclecar featured a belt-driven system and was designed to accommodate two passengers in a tandem seating arrangement. It was powered by a 1 horsepower air-cooled 2-cylinder Spacke engine, which was typical for cyclecars of that era.
Production of the Comet cyclecar was limited, with estimates suggesting that it did not exceed an initial batch of 25 units. The brand's short-lived existence reflected the challenges faced by many small manufacturers during the early automotive industry, leading to its eventual discontinuation.
