Brand Data

Company Name: Century Motor Vehicle Co.

Country: United States

Century Motor Vehicle Company was established in Syracuse, New York, and operated from 1900 to 1903. The company initially focused on producing steam and electric vehicles, announcing its first models at the dawn of the new century. By November 1901, Century claimed to have manufactured over 60 steam and electric vehicles.

Among its notable products were steam cars that were exported to England, where they were marketed under the name Ophir. These vehicles featured a distinctive design with a steeply sloping shaft drive connecting the engine to the rear axle, a departure from the more common chain drive used by many steam vehicles of that era.

In 1902, Century introduced a petrol-powered car equipped with a 7-horsepower single-cylinder engine and a four-seater dot-a-dos body, known as the Century Tourist. However, the company announced in December 1902 that it would cease production of steam cars, and all manufacturing activities came to an end in 1903.
