Brand Data

Company Name: Argo Electric Vehicle Co.

Place: Saginaw, Michigan

Country: United States

Argo Electric Vehicle Company was established in Saginaw, Michigan, and operated from 1912 to 1914. The company specialized in the production of electric vehicles, which were considered advanced for their time. Notably, all Argo models featured wheel steering and boasted a long wheelbase of 110 inches (2792 mm). The vehicles were powered by Westinghouse motors, which contributed to their performance.

The initial offering from Argo in 1912 was a closed brougham, a style that was typical for electric cars of that era. In 1913, the company expanded its lineup to include a roadster and a delivery truck. During that year, Argo claimed to have sold 300 electric vehicles, although the market was highly competitive, with more established brands like Detroit dominating sales.

In 1914, Argo Electric Vehicle Company merged with Broc and Borland-Grannis to form the American Electric Car Company. Production of vehicles from all three brands was centralized in the Argo plant; however, this consolidation did not extend beyond November 1916. Following the cessation of vehicle production, the factory was repurposed for the manufacture of the Yale (ii) and later for the Jumbo truck by the Nelson Motor Truck Company.
