American Fiber Craft was an automotive manufacturer based in Cupertino, California, active from 1981 until approximately 1984. The company specialized in producing kit cars, with its most notable model being the Aquila. The Aquila was designed to fit the Volkswagen chassis and drew inspiration from the BMW Turbo show car of 1972, resulting in a visually appealing low-profile coupe featuring gull-wing doors.
In 1982, American Fiber Craft expanded its offerings by introducing an electric power package for the Aquila. This package included a 20-horsepower motor powered by a 96-volt battery pack, providing a driving range of approximately 45 to 50 miles. The design of the Aquila also included a lowered floorpan, which allowed for increased headroom, making it more accommodating for taller drivers.
