Alken Corporation was an American automotive manufacturer based in Venice, California, active from 1958 to 1959. The company is best known for producing one of the earliest kit car bodies designed for the Volkswagen Beetle platform.
The Alken model was a high-quality fiberglass convertible that featured a removable hardtop, which contributed to its appeal. Designed by industrial designer Bill Pierson, the Alken was noted for its attractive aesthetics and received favorable reviews, particularly after a positive road test published by Road & Track magazine in 1958.
One of the standout features of the Alken was its assembly time; it could be constructed in approximately 19 hours, significantly faster than the average kit car of that era. This efficiency, combined with its design and performance, helped the Alken gain popularity among enthusiasts during its brief production run.
