Hi-Tech

Hi-Tech Welding Services was a small British manufacturer based in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, active between 1986 and 1990. The company originated as a steel fabrication business before turning its attention to the replica car market, joining the many firms producing tributes to the Ford GT40.

Its product was a recreation of the classic GT40 Mk I, built around a multi-tube space frame chassis rather than the monocoque construction of the original. Buyers could specify power from a Rover V8, an American V8, or a Renault 30 engine, giving the kit a degree of flexibility not always found among rival replicas.

Compared with other GT40 tributes of the era, the Hi-Tech was generally regarded as one of the lesser efforts in terms of build quality. Its most notable distinction was that at least two examples were produced with a targa-style removable roof panel, a variation not commonly seen on other GT40 replicas of the period.

The marque remained a minor and short-lived participant in the replica car industry, producing a limited number of vehicles before ceasing operations around 1990.
